The sky is blue (for now) and the sun is shining, the perfect day to share Olivia and Tom’s wedding celebration which took place in Olivia’s home parish of Clontibret Co Monaghan and then on to the gorgeous Nuremore Hotel for the afters.
Olivia and her Dad are well seasoned wedding people. Her Dad has vintage cars and pony & traps that he hires for weddings, the only difference this time was rather than Olivia being up front on the reins helping her Dad she was sitting in the back of the trap being chauffered by their trusted family friend of 24 years, Paddy the pony. Like a true professional Paddy got her to the church on time and didn’t even attempt a nibble of her bouquet.
Myself and the florist Kay were giddy when Olivia told us about her Dad’s vintage Mill Museum which he runs near their home. It’s full of all things old and wonderful so Kay had a good rummage around finding fantastic old boots, milk churns and horse collars to fill with flowers to decorate the church. Olivia’s bouquet was extra special being made from lavender and flax from the family fields and this theme was carried on at the Church with the life cycle of flax from field to linen displayed at the entrance and the lavender decorated the tables and cake at the hotel.
A family friend had a flask of something good and potent to warm them up after the ceremony, I’ve never seen so many people interested in the by-products of potatoes before! So much thought went into every element of the day, Tom even remembered to throw his clubs in the boot in case we got time to head down to the green in the hotel for a quick round of golf-wishful thinking Tom-but we did manage a few minutes on the putting green where he got to show off his skills!
The date too was extra special, not only was it the day Olivia’s Mum & Dad had originally set for their wedding but it was also Olivia’s Mum’s birthday so all the more reason to party. I left them in the same way I found them that morning , smiling and spending time with the people they care about, I can’t think of a better way to spend a day.
